Some other things that I've noticed but haven't really seen being discussed about is that accessing the WD drive in any way (right clicking, double-clicking, looking at properties, etc.) is incredibly slow. Currently trying to use Recuva in advanced mode to recover my undeleted files but that is having The simple cut and paste and copy and paste at which Windows 8.1 would discover the files, "move" them and finish the task. I've already tried using a different USB cable (my Toshiba USB cable), different computers (my desktop and laptop, both running Windows 8.1) and different USB ports (4x USB 2.0 on my desktop and 3x USB 3.0 on my laptop). (also evident from the running hum, lights on and blinking) and I believe that I can still transfer all my files out and into my Toshiba external hard drive before the WD completely fails. Because of this, I know my hard drive is not dead Now, the WD can occasionally show up in My Computer, Disk Management, and Task Manager > Performance, but other times will not and Disk Management will either say "not initialized" or not show it at all. To have hung and everything went downhill from there fast. 2 days ago, I started having issues with copying some files over to it. I bought a brand new Western Digital My Passport Ultra last month to replace my Toshiba since I kept reading that WD is of better quality than Toshiba.
